Grrr-Lick
Description: Grrr-Lick Garlic Snacks for Dogs
A Snack A Day Helps Keep The fleas Away! - Article By: Patrick J McDonald
I discovered Actif Alium garlic treats about 2 years ago while in Europe. From there I decided to test market it under the name of Grrr-Lick. I wanted to know - did it work? Did the dogs like it? Would dog owners accept it? Comments that have come back have been nothing but positive other than the occasional dog that will not eat it. People have basically reported, the fleas have left the building/dog and it appears to be a deterrent to ticks also. At the least, we know there is significantly less of an attraction to the dog by the ticks, thus there is less of a tick problem when the dogs are on it. It has been successfully used in Europe for over four years and Canada for three.
As far as the dogs liking it there is nothing that every dog everywhere likes (except kitty poop of course!) but the percentages of dogs that do like it are in the majority. Occasionally we get a dog that will turn their nose up to it. On the other hand we have taken it to dog shows where dogs are often under to much stress to take food and found that it was overwhelmingly accepted. Handlers at dog shows have even reported successfully using it for bait. They have told us that most dogs went crazy for it when they cut it into very thin slices.
Since it is a very powerful dose of garlic I suggest you stay fairly close to the recommended use instructions on the label. The only concerns would be just as if we ate too much garlic. Our breath would become a little much to deal with socially and very high amounts of garlic, if you are not used to, it can give you a little stomach discomfort. Even if you doubled or tripled the daily recommended amount there would be no need for concern. We have had dogs eat a whole stick of seven in a day with no problem, there is nothing dangerous about garlic.
You will like the convenience and savor the peace of mind knowing that you are not loading your pet with chemicals. It is important to keep in mind that it takes about a month for the effect to start taking place. The dog should be put on the Grrr-Lick at least 30 days before the flea season starts. This is not a flea killer but a flea deterrent. If a flea jumps on the dog it will exit due to the odor given off by the dogâ€s skin. This odor is not detectable by humans and the dogs will only have garlic breath for a very short time after ingesting the treat. The smell of garlic is mainly due to its high concentration of sulphur in the oil which is believed to be the main reason for the effect.
The health benefits of garlic have been known for centuries and many of them apply to dogs. It is used for and has been proven to be a diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant, antibacterial, antimycotic, and a stimulant. Garlic will enhance fibrinolytic activity; the breaking down of fiber associated with blood clots, and will inhibit platelet aggregation. I bring this up because; if a dog is scheduled for surgery discontinuation of the product a week to ten days before would be desirable since garlic will slightly inhibit the clotting effect of blood. This action on the other hand is beneficial in most cases since it removes and assists the plasmin, an enzyme that converts fibrin into soluble products, in dealing with any problem causing internal scar/fibrin tissue that may be in and around internal injuries. During the wars of the early part of the 20th century the juice of garlic was applied to battle wounds to control the formation of pus/infection, thus the name Russian penicillin. The lives of thousands were saved through the use of garlic.
From the book A Modern Herbal, this passage is found; It is said that during an outbreak of infectious fever in certain poor quarters of London, early last century, the 19th, the French priests who constantly used garlic in their dishes, visited the worst cases with impunity, whilst the English clergy caught the infection, and in many instances fell victim to the disease.
Garlic has invaluable medical properties for asthma, hoarseness, coughs, difficulty of breathing and most disorders of the lungs. It is especially effective in dealing with bronchitis due to its powers of promoting expectoration. Among the other diseases treated successfully with garlic are; pulmonary tuberculosis, whooping cough, edema and it is also said to prevent anthrax in cattle. It is a very powerful aid in digestion and the essential oil of garlic helps maintain a healthy stomach lining. Garlic aids in lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure and it is effective in removing the environment of excess mucosa where parasites hide in the gut. Not to mention, as we all know, it repels Vampires!

Hokamix Description: Breeders, Trainers and Veterinarians throughout the world have known the power of HOKAMIX for over 20 years. Sold in over a dozen countries, it is the #1 herbal pet supplement in the world! Your dogs will look, feel, and perform their best with this unique, ALL NATURAL herbal blend. HOKAMIX contains balanced vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, chlorophyll, trace elements, essential fatty acids and other nutrients found naturally in Dandelion, two different species of Kelp, Alfalfa, Cayenne, Sage, Couchgrass and other beneficial herbs. Hokamix 30 has been used as a detoxifier and nutritional aid for dogs for over two decades. Hokamix was off the market for a little while due to some label issues with the FDA. When things like this happen it gives us a chance to reflect and see what a product is really all about when it’s gone. Our customers of many years saw with their own eyes the decline of their pet’s health when they could no longer give them Hokamix and we are all very relived to have it back. These label issues have all been resolved and we are pleased to offer this great product again. You may notice Hokamix is now designated for the USA as Hokamix 25. FDA has required this change on the label and it is merely for identification of the product when importing it into the USA. The formula is exactly the same as before and has not changed one bit. Directions for Hokamix powder When first introducing Hokamix, it is necessary to gradually work up to the recommended amount added to the food by increasing the amount added over a 1-2 week period, or adjust to bowel tolerance. Hokamix, combined with a high quality food, will benefit pets of all ages. Your pet’s digestive system is designed to process food which has a moisture content of 80 to 90%. Digestive enzymes do not break down or convert food into its proper form while it is in the dry state. In addition, pets will generally accept Hokamix better when it is mixed into a moist food. When dry food is used Hokamix has a tendency to fall to the bottom of the bowl and the dog may not receive the full amount, therefore dry food by itself is not recommended. Dry food should be moistened allowing the water to absorb into the food before feeding. Yogurt or other foods can be added for palatability.
Dogs: the normal daily amount of Hokamix is one 5 gram scoop, found in each container, per 10 lbs. of body weight up to a maximum of 3 scoops a day. If your pet is fed twice daily the amount can be divided. For dogs that have severe problems, hip dysplasia, arthritis, allergies, etc. the amount should be doubled or taken to as close to a double recommended amount as the bowel will allow, for the first 6 weeks then returned to the normal maintenance amount. Directions for Hokamix tablets Hokamix tablets offer a healthy alternative for those dogs who object to additives on their food. These tablets have a mild meat flavor that most dogs seem to enjoy. Directions: As with Hokamix powder, start with 1/5 the recommended amount then gradually increase the amount until the desired amount has been reached. Puppies 5 to 10 lbs: 1/2 to 1 tablet per day. Body weight of 5 kg (approx 11 to 21 lbs.): 2 to 3 tablets per day. Body weight of 10 kg to 15 kg (approx 22 to 33 lbs.): 4-6 tablets per day. Adult dogs: 3-6 tablets per day Large dogs (35 lbs. and up): 6-7 tablets per day. Exact amounts may vary. The severity of the problem will indicate how much to use. For severe problems always double the recommended amount for the first six weeks before returning to the normal amount. Maintenance use on young healthy dogs over 2 years of age and less than 5 years of age will generally be less. After an initial period of continued use (6 to 8 months) a short break off Hokamix for 3 to 5 days every 4 months allows the herbs to work more effectively when the normal amount is resumed. Don’t expect instant results. Improvements usually become apparent after 3 to 4 weeks of constant use. The whole of your pets system has to readjust. Each pet’s condition is different and may take a different length of time to improve. We highly recommend purchasing the size designed for your size of dog as you may run out of Hokamix just before the desired results are achieved. Due to restrictive regulations enforced by the USDA/Center for Veterinary Medicine, we are not allowed to comment on specific health conditions that Hokamix can help rectify. Hokamix is a food supplement and is not intended to be a medicinal treatment. We don’t claim that Hokamix will cure all ills, but please give it a try. You may be surprised! Hokamix is not intended to replace normal veterinary care.
